Lisa Gordon

I was born and raised in Southern California. As a teen I rode and trained my own horses Daisy, Playmate and Hobbie. The empathic quality seen in my sculptures arose from an intrinsic love of caring for my horses. However, within the precarious surroundings of the suburbs one stable after another closed due to numerous tract home developments. This encroachment became the early catalyst for my first bronze sculptures.

I received an MFA from California State University Fullerton in 1992. During my education I developed an understanding of my place in the art world in relation to the vast history of equine art. I vowed not to be dismayed by the often traditional depictions of horses. On the contrary I wanted to breathe new life into the horses form, juxtaposing the past with contemporary presentation. More importantly my schooling exposed me to bronze casting. I developed a passion for the casting process and after graduating I worked for numerous foundries throughout the Southwest.
