While the singing redwing perches in the rushes behind them, the trio of smiling cowgirls testifies to the simple joy of shared company, the pleasure of female friendship.  In ancient cultures, the bird was considered a messenger, linking the material and spiritual worlds, earth and heaven.  Closeness, the redwing tells us, is a bit of heaven and earth.
